Good Old Days
from Urban Waltzes
Written by: Alex Shelbourne
I’ve been afraid of sleepin’ these days
So one dark haze is all I see
I guess I just can’t face the man
I dreamed to be
My clothes hang loose like I’m shrinkin’ to the floor
The mirror shows a man that I don’t know
Thinking “will my life like all before
Just come and go?”
Take me back where I used to be
Back when I was still me
When I was young and free
Do the best years of a life reveal themselves at last
Only when they’ve passed? Or will more find me?
Am I done? Is every happy day I’m owed
On the beaten road
Are the good old days ahead or behind me?
Why can’t I feel the passin’ of time
‘Til Summer’s already faded into Fall
From a brand new love every day
To none at all
Take me back to where I used to be
Back when I was still me
When I was young and free
Do the best years of a life reveal themselves at last
Only when they’ve passed? Or will more find me?
Has my heart held everything that it can hold?
‘Cause I’m gettin’ old
Are the good old days ahead or behind me?
When did I grow old?
Why did I let life pass me by
Deciding not to try?
Where did I miss things?
How could I not know
That you were the one until I watched you go
Do the best years of a life reveal themselves at last
Only when they’ve passed? Or will more find me?
And if not, will I have the strength to go on?
While you’re still gone
Are the good old days ahead?
Are the good old days ahead?
I pray the good old days are ahead, not behind me
