Remember Me
from Crucible, PA
Written by: Alex Shelbourne
I close my eyes and see the lights
Shining on the stands at those home game Friday nights
Where I first kissed you, then felt my heart attack
When you kissed me back
Like a perfect movie scene
That I’m left here remembering
But these days the only lights I see
Are strapped upon my head to light this hole in front of me
Though I’d spend each day with you just like we did
We’ve now got the kid
And he’s my new priority
While I’m down here remembering
Down here, remember
We said we’d be
One of those picture perfect families
That you read about or see on TV
But no one tells you when your young
That between your marriage and your son
You’ve got love for both, but only time for one
I hold my hips and feel the lace
Weaving through my dress that barely keeps my heart in place
As I cross the gym floor showing off the ring
From the homecoming king
To his brushing bride to be
But I’m just here remembering
Now see much these hips have grown
Where you once stood beside me, I now sit alone
To rock our child beside the candle flame
And repeat your name
So he doesn’t just know me
While I’m stuck here remembering
Stuck here, remember
We said we’d be
One of those picture perfect families
That you read about or see on TV
But no one tells you when your young
That between your marriage and your son
You’ve got love for both, but only time for one
But I miss you, and I need you
I miss you, and I need you
Now you’re a million miles away
But that kiss keeps me going, this ring gets me through the day
And you in my arms is all I’m thinking of,
But you can’t live on love
Well, maybe two could, but not three
So I’m down here remembering
I’m stuck here remembering
Please remember me
